More photos… eventually

On Friday afternoon I saw a post on Facebook stating that the Maryland Archaeology Conservation Lab is hosting a series of “Public Archaeology Weekends” near their headquarters in Southeastern Maryland (Calvert County, an hour south of Annapolis) throughout the month of May.

Unfortunately, my registration for this weekend and next weekend was REJECTED, but I was invited to “visit the park and see the archaeology exhibit in our Visitor [sic] Center.” As disappointing as this news is, it has nothing to do with theme parks… right?

Not directly, but it is a nice change of pace. However, since I have to take the MARC commuter train (which means Weekday only, the program I applied to ran Thurs-Sat) to DC to get the bus to Prince Frederick, and I pick up said MARC train at Penn Station which puts me on the Penn-Wash line which has a stop in the town of Bowie, Maryland… which is home to Bowie State University (where the MARC station is located), the Bowie Baysocks baseball team (affiliated with the Orioles), and, wait for it, Six Flags America!!

But, wait, can’t I just take the train down there any time I want? Sure, and I can spend two whole days in the park if I wanted to, but, as I said, my excuse to justify going is gone. Sorry, but the carrot is worthless without the stick.

This isn’t getting into the logistical program of SFA not having any hotels near its property which as demonstrated by my failed Hershey trip is a big deal because high gas prices are forcing rideshare drivers off the road which makes the rides I DO get 2-3x more expensive. Add in my park ticket and inflated theme park prices – particularly on food – and you can see how hard it gets to justify.

After Memorial Day, all three parks I plan on visiting (SFA, Hershey and Knoebels – and possibly others) will be open during the week, which is not only significantly less crowded time to visit, but it offers me considerably more flexibility in when I can go there. So, hang tight, I’ll have more photos… eventually.
